Hi CoSo,

Can anyone recommend online support groups for parents of a teen experiencing marijuana-induced psychosis?

The family is devastated, the shock, the uncertainty of what it all means. Am trying to convince them to join a supportive group. No margin of error for trying random groups online.

Thank you 💜

^^ Please feel free to DM me if you prefer. Thank you!

@DJNoneYa
Thank you. I hope they will join the group. This is not something to go through without support and kindness.

@artemis so true....it's a really rough road if you don't know which way to go....

@artemis I would bet that poison control or 2-1-1
Would have info…

@Museek
Thanks, M, the teen is already in the hospital care; it's parents who are terrified and need good support from kind ppl who went through similar nightmare

@artemis good… I just think they have listings for just this thing… pretty sure.. when I was doing fire relief and putting the database together for mental health services, I seem to recall they had them for loved ones, as well.

@artemis I hope they find the support they need… al anon or narc anon are also good starting places. Someone will probably know, there.

@Museek good suggestions, thank you so much , I'll check them out.

@artemis Just a heads up, as far as I know, cannabis-induced psychosis primarily occurs in people who likely would've developed schizophrenia eventually anyway - or, in other words, it seems as if (at least in a significant subset of cases) cannabis may actually be simply accelerating the onset of psychosis/schizophrenia rather than causing it outright.

@IrelandTorin

Yeah, it's complicated. Very sad, regardless. Hopefully meds will help.

@artemis

This is one of those times I do wish we could quote toot. Maybe someone in has experience with this? Definitely a support resource nonetheless.

Thank you so much, I did not know about the hashtag. Great suggestion.

@artemis MA is a 12-step program in the style of AA and Narcotics Anonymous that is geared towards addressing marijuana addiction and abuse, which can be unique in that marijuana is considered less harmful and addictive than other substances and is even regarded as beneficial in much of today's society.

At their site you can find online, phone-in, and in-person meetings (where available) to help. Some of these meetings are exclusive to the addict themself, but some are open to family

Thank you very much. I will pass this info to them. They are so stressed out, I am trying hard to convince them to join such a support group. There is so much value in fellowship and kindness.
