I know Floppy disk and a Hard disk… spouse is trying to tell me of such a thing as “stiffy disk” (or so his uncle called it).

Wtf is a stiffy disk??

I feel bad for laughing in his face and asking “you mean a hard disk??” To his credit he heard it from his 60-yr old uncle.

Btw… We are watching Slackers right now.

@annamuneca A "stiffy disk" is apparently a slang term for a 3.5" floppy, as unlike the 5.25" and 8" floppies, 3.5" floppies don't, well, flop! They're hard plastic and, thus, stiff.

@annamuneca Wildly speculative guess: some form of magneto-optical storage?

I really don't know though, I've never heard anything like that term used.

@annamuneca somebody's pulling your chain.
There was briefly a high capacity (for the time) disk that had a larger floppy media and used the Bernoulli effect to spin and read the material.
I doubt he means that.

@annamuneca This topic is reminding me of an unbelievably absurd, but also fairly amusing and technically fairly impressive, video about "Harder drives". It is very long, though.
