Sometimes I wanna be reckless and bring a dog home for spouse/us. But he wants a puppy because he has this weird idea about imprinting. I’m not keen on puppy mills. He’s warming up to pitbulls though since that’s what the majority of breed there are at the shelters.
@MidnightRider nah, his whole imprinting idea is stupid and I’ve called him out on it.
@annamuneca If you like pit bulls you're in, most of the dogs I see in shelters are that breed.
@MidnightRider I have no problem with them. A lot of them seem like sweet cuddle bugs.
@annamuneca I've known several loving pits, I don't dislike any dogs I just favor aussies and blue healers.
Most every breed has a rescue that will get a puppy to you. Google search for specific breed/mix and contact them directly. They save dogs from puppy mills.
@LnzyHou it’s funny because I don’t want a puppy. Puppies are a LOT of work. I don’t want to deal with a puppy. But a grown dog? Sure.
Totally agree.
I’ve raised puppies and frankly I’m better at rehab rescue dogs - preferably young adults.
Maybe the important distinction is not whether they imprint but discerning imprinting from bonding.
Of course they will bond with you, as you know. ☺️
@annamuneca I've rescued three. If by imprinting he's worried the dog won't love you both? My experiences are shelter dogs innately understand they are getting a second chance, never had one that wasn't loving and awesome.
