IMO big hospitals need to create medical coder programs to replace their coders who are retiring within the next 5 years.
Because the job posts stating “Requires five years of experience level 1 trauma center coding” with salary range $37k-$54k are laughable. Good luck.

@annamuneca Many hospitals pay very poorly. That is a root cause of really crappy hospital networks and IT team. If any of the staff really are talented and motivated, they are hired away. That leaves a weak IT team. There are exceptions and I think the trends are improving, but not fast enough.

@SimplyZippy yeah they do. We share our IT guy with another facility and it’s the worst because things keep happening while he’s gone.
