@mcfate I still use Twitter...and I do so as there are still individuals that have not moved on to other social media sites that provide invaluable information I can't find anywhere else. My follow list is minimal and interaction even less. In addition, have tried other apps/sites but they are nowhere near information capabilities or capacity. Filters are your friends.
By not moving on yourself, you're giving other an excuse for not moving on.
And as I said, you're supporting Elmo's efforts to gain advertising bucks just by logging in.
What "invaluable information" is on Formerly-Known-As and nowhere else? I'm deeply skeptical of this claim.
@mcfate One excellent example of an individual that is still contributing is Mark Pittcavage. He is an invaluable source of information with regards to far right, neonazism, sovereign citizens. Though your criticism is valid, it is shortsighted at best and undercuts a source of meaningful and insightful information.
Except you can read Mark Pittcavage's papers, articles, and other writing other places.
If the only place you can get anything from an ACADEMIC is Formerly-Known-As, they're not much of a communicator.
What I see as "shortsighted" is people pretending that they're not supporting Nazis, racists, and Elmo by patronizing his web site.
@mcfate interesting that you somewhat question someone's credentials with as "not much of a communicator" when an "ACADEMIC" comes out of the ivory tower and tries to provide information through social media and interact with "common folks". Yes, Pittcavage has substantial written materials but time does progress and more has to be written on new charactersand groups. Yes, time for reflection on someone's part...
I was mostly being facetious there.
The point, however, is that you probably don't actually need Formerly-Known-As to keep up with him, it's possible by other means.
This sounds to me like some species of Fear of Missing Out, and that doesn't seem like a terrific justification for contributing life-support to a site that deserves to die.
There might be stuff that's only on 8kun, too, but who cares?
@mcfate You have an interesting way of convincing or persuading a person without any historical or factual points aside from being facetious. 8kun...really? /s
You could try actually engaging with the discussion, perhaps.
All you seem to be doing is getting upset that I believe being on Formerly-Known-As lends aid and comfort to Elmo and the other Nazis and haters he coddles there.
You seem to be having some sort of meta-discussion about how put out I'm making you feel. I don't really care if I "persuade" you or not.
@mcfate
3. 4Chan and its offspring 8kun are garbage and lack anyone with any credibility or authority on specific subject matter. Again, I am online to learn not to be overwhelmed by senseless diatribes. Were I a sociologist/psychiatrist/psychologist looking to study people that visit these sites it would probably be a gold mine.
4. Am I upset and having "some sort of meta-discussion about how put out I'm making you feel"? No, but I am disappointed. 2/X
@mcfate
5. You don't know me and trying to make inferences from a few posts with regards to my state of mind is ludicrous.
6. I could have easily muted/blocked you without engaging but chose to make a statement: "I am still on Twitter for a reason" and stated why. I am not here to change your mind but to let you know why some people continue to have a presence on Twitter.
