I was not surprised that the movie "Megalopolis" is a flop at the box office. I get the impression that certain directors no longer have the impact that they did years ago---directors like Spielberg and Martin Scorsese. Is the public tired or no longer wanting to see these movies because of the content or not interested at all? #CoSo #movies https://www.vulture.com/article/megalopolis-is-a-box-office-mega-flop-olis.html
I'm willing to bet that it becomes a cult classic. Possibly after Coppola's death.
Maybe it's... not good?
@Victor real life may be more interesting than any drama that Hollywood can invent at the present time.
@gshevlin Thus the saying "art imitating life" Maybe why one of the reasons why reality shows displaced other programing on the tube.
@Victor Except that reality shows are nothing of the sort. They're like WWE, stuffed full of poseurs and pretenders.
I bet the Duck Dynasty guys have shaved off their beards and gone back to playing golf in their Izod gear.
@gshevlin Yet, the evolution of what the crowd wants. Hoping that it does not end up like Idiocracy...
Box office receipts vs Oscar nomination/win are somewhat analogous to what makes a movie great--depending on who you ask. Box office receipts is more reflective as to what public opinion is about a "good" movie and everyone wants to see. Oscar nomination/win is more reflective of a small cadre of opinions and leans more towards the artistic side. I sometimes scratch my head wondering why certain movies are nominated let alone win an Oscar.
