Gen-X description of a girl who has skills and interests outside the kitchen/garden/dolls: tomboy. I was never told I wasn't a girl if I changed my own motor oil or used a power tool to build a non-food thing.

It's almost as if Americans (societies generally?) have always known that gender is a non-binary, imprecise and fluid concept. Why the fear?! 🌈
