This is fantastic. I remember this and that brilliant line about how capitalism is mutable in the same way as the “divine right kings”. Amazon is loathsome, both its rapacity and predatory origins of its business model. It started with books because mail order books were a proven business model and bookstores were vulnerable.

Fortunately local bookstores are making a huge comeback.
