Behind every fortune is a crime, as they say.
@Tail For instance, if someone stole art from Nazis, or stole from Russian mobsters, or stole from Middle Eastern terrorists and took away their ability to buy weapons and terrorize people, is that a crime?
@Tail I guess maybe depends what you do with it... If you use it to buy more weapins and not support children, education, etc maybe
@Tail It's a fine line between right and wrong and often the law is not necessarily the straight line.
@Tail And religion is not much better.
@Klaatu_Veratta_Nectarine @Tail
Sure. Being a Quaker is the same as being a terrorist, almost.
@mcfate @Klaatu_Veratta_Nectarine Yup. All depends on which side of the line you're on. People focus too much on who's on the other side of it rather than paying attention to the line itself, why it's there and what purpose it serves.
@Tail @Klaatu_Veratta_Nectarine
"Wise men see outlines, and therefore they draw them." β William Blake
"Mad men see outlines, and therefore they draw them." β William Blake, two months later
@Klaatu_Veratta_Nectarine The lines are drawn to the whims of those who draw them, much to the detriment of everyone else. Also the line can be moved by them whenever they see fit to. It's their line, we just have to abide by it.
@Tail @Klaatu_Veratta_Nectarine
So many HUGE statements about things that are completely ill-defined.
Name a "line". Name a "religion". This is becoming nothing but unmoored polemic.
"LINES ARE BAD."
@mcfate @Klaatu_Veratta_Nectarine Nah, I'm not saying lines are bad, they're absolutely necessary. It's how the lines are reinforced I take issue with is all. Speaking in generalities, yeah, but that's the jist of what I'm getting at.
@Tail @Klaatu_Veratta_Nectarine
"Generalities" is a nice name for "hand-waving and broad-brushing".
Lines are imaginary. People are real.
@Tail @Klaatu_Veratta_Nectarine
Lines are like pockets.
If you give someone pockets, next thing they want is something to put into them.
If you give someone a line, the next thing they want is to know who's on the other side of it from them.
@mcfate @Klaatu_Veratta_Nectarine "Fences make enemies, not friends".
@Klaatu_Veratta_Nectarine @Tail
Yeah, it's a crime. Whether it's prosecutable is another question, but stealing is stealing.
@mcfate Agreed. Even if you steal someone's gun to prevent them from committing a crime with it, two wrongs don't make a right, as they say.
@Tail Depends on where the crime ocurred, some may call it a win.
