As a general rule of democracy: Vote for people who will work to ensure the poor have the same rights, liberty, and justice before the law as the wealthy.
Corollary: A rising tide lifts all boats. Which is good news for those who can afford a seat on the boat. No so great if you're treading water.

Being poor should not be a death sentence, nor is it a personal failing! We need to build a robust net so that if someone falls, we as a society catch them and help lift them back up.
