@Stevo They are not, usually, but sometimes shoes are unisex (Converses, for instance, use unisex sizing).
In the US, a men's size is typically wider than a woman's by one step and is about 1.5 sizes larger than the women's equivalent.
Put another way, a US 12 men's is the equivalent of a US 13.5 wide women's.
Of course, this is just a rule of thumb! It varies based on vendor, too.
EU sizes are typically unisex outside of width, however.
