Leopard 2 is faster, that's true. Approximately 3mph faster ON ROADS.
It has a significantly smaller radius of combat than Challenger 2, as well.
Challenger 2 is better armored, and its ammunition is not stored out in the open in the hull. Leopard 2 keeps its main gun ammunition right in the fighting compartment, no wet storage, no blow out panels, nothing.
Ask Turkey how this worked out for their Leo 2s in Syria against insurgents with Gen 2 ATGMS.
Spoiler: Not very well at all.
@JolieSaboteuse I’d also add that the British, American, and tank crews of other nations trained by the British and Americans have superior training that makes all the difference.
@Stevo For example, with a human loader feeding the main gun, Challenger and Abrams can both maintain a higher rate of accurate fire than their Russian autoloader equipped counterparts.
Training, training, and training.
@JolieSaboteuse I've watched a lot of pilot videos because I'm like a kid when it comes to fighter jets, and that's one thing I hear them say a lot. You can have the best jet in the world but if you don't know how to properly operate it, an inferior jet will shoot you out of the sky.
@Stevo I can attest to the veracity of this statement.
