POS. America doesn't have an official language and if it did, English wouldn't be it.

@StephanieResists it always surprised me coming from India (I was born and raised there, then immigrated to the US later) that the US didn’t have an official language. India has many languages spoken and written within the country, but English and Hindi were adopted as official languages. So, all gov forms/paperwork has to be available in both those languages. Same goes for schooling, and everyone has to learn both languages in school. Wouldn’t Spanish + English be the natural choice for the US?

@Dogofalltrees @StephanieResists

We don't really need to designate an official language, but if we were to, the Republicans would NEVER accept anything other than English only.

@Agatha @Dogofalltrees I see no need for an officially designated language in a melting pot country we stole from Spanish speakers. I feel it's racists who bring that bs up.

@StephanieResists @Dogofalltrees

*A country we stole from Native peoples, none of whom originally spoke Spanish OR English.

@Agatha @Dogofalltrees We didn't even name out States without using their language. perhaps most visibly in numerous American cities and states (San Francisco, Nevada, El Paso, etc.).

@Agatha @Dogofalltrees And just look how the Native Americans are treated to this day? There's places on the Rez just now getting running water. What kinda inhumane bs is that? It disgusts me.

@StephanieResists @Dogofalltrees

And officiating either English or Spanish as a national language would be yet another slap to their faces.

@Agatha @StephanieResists Interesting. I learn something new here on every day. I'd never thought of it like that. I always think of it as a matter of convenience (i.e., all gov paperwork HAS to be available in the two primary languages). But I guess you two have a point as well.

@Dogofalltrees @StephanieResists

I think it's good to offer documents in multiple languages, but in this day and age it shouldn't be difficult to do that. But we can do that without any one language being made "official" as that only empowers the bigots.
