That being said, I'm going to post my question here and maybe I can finally get help with my question. I just bought a brand-new laptop, took it out of the box and while typing, it will dim as if the screensaver is about to kick on. It's driving me insane going dim and bright as I'm using it. Best I can figure from google is maybe a corrupted driver and that's outta my scope of knowledge because I've used an iPhone for so long and not kept up with actual PC's. Suggestions?
@StephanieResists
Best guess...
You purchased a Chromebook.
The ambient sensor is continually adjusting the brightness. Check in the display settings for a nighttime mode switch to disable?
@pendrag It's an HP Envy x360
@StephanieResists
Ok, try this...
On the keyboard hold down the FN key and tap F3.
This should brighten the screen via a set value and stop the ambient light sensor.
If it still brightens/darkens after that; there could be an issue with the display connectors that may require service.
@pendrag I did it. It opened some strange box at the top of screen with a flashing cursor to type and an X to leave 🤣
@StephanieResists
interesting... is there an led on the FN key and is it On?
Sometimes that key is in a locked on state or a locked off.
Maybe try tapping the F3 key without holding the FN key.
@pendrag No LED on F3
@StephanieResists
The LED would be on the FN key, this is located in the lower left corner of the keyboard.
Also, when you do tap the F3, please make sure no other windows are active on the screen. (minimize everything and click middle of the screen)
@pendrag That's correct cause that's what I've been doing to brighten and dim it accordingly, like at night cause it's too bright while in a poorly lit room, I just tap the F2 a few times and adjust. It's just bizarre how I'll be typing out a post and the screen goes really dim and then promptly brightens itself back up without intervention.
