I remember sitting my mom down with a bottle of bourbon at the kitchen table and after she took her first shot I said, "You're racist. And you raised me racist."
My mom said, "I am NOT."
I said, "Do you remember telling me that Quarterbacks are white because intelligence is needed?"
*Poured a shot*
My mom- I never said that.
Me- Yes. You did. Remember telling me that ____ was good looking for a Black man?
Mom- I never said that and if I did it was because it was true."
Mom? That's racist.
Shovel another shot at my mom
My mom- "But they look like monkeys. They can't be real people. You don't understand what Black people looked like before you were born!"
Me- shoving another shot over.
"That's bullshit. And you believe it. I don't know what to think about you now. "
My mom came undone.
And in her 70s she did the work.
My mom died at 87 a white person doing the work with her people.
I don't want to hear Generation trash.
