In May of 2000 Borders, after 1 year of employment as a manager, finally shipped me to Ann Arbor for management training. My hotel roommate was a young woman also from NJ who worked at a different store in Raleigh.
We had a blast.
Cut to our last morning when the news was on TV as we packed.
The anchor, very precisely, announced that a man who had potential mob ties was killed accidentally in a marble warehouse when-

Slabs of marble fell over and crushed him.
Other woman and I looked right at each other, said, "Accidentally," and then both of us burst into hysterical laughter.
It's a strange way to grow up.
