In yet another sign that Rs have no ideas except peddling the same MAGA BS that already cost them the midterm cycle, Kevin announced a "select subcommittee on the weaponization of the federal government" - with an explicit mandate to expose ongoing criminal investigations.
That's a) moronic, because it will anger far more voters than it excites, and b) not going to work, because courts won't let Congress interfere in active criminal inquiries.
@RationalLeft It’s also hypocritical bullshit, because DFG actually did weaponize the DOJ to protect him and go after his “enemies” 🙄 And it looks like they’re trying to cover their own treasonous asses.
@Mydoggyruss Correct... and in a major, major problem for Rs, most of the public knows that. The R candidates screaming to lock up Ds for "rigging the 2020 election" crashed and burned in every swing state.
@Mydoggyruss Yes, of course they will - but they gave it their all in the midterms and thought they'd convinced a majority. They hadn't.
Lake's support seems pretty thin. She's called for mass demonstrations outside the AZ state house and seems to be getting about 15 people. And even the RNC didn't back her lawsuits.
@RationalLeft Yes. But remember that her voters—like the morons who vote for MTG, BoBo, Gaetz, Jordan, etc—don’t want representation and legislation. They want a circus for their entertainment. Damn fools. And Kari Lake delivers. I do agree, though. Her craziness has been on full display.
@Mydoggyruss I agree about her voters. But the problem for Rs is that there aren't as many voters like that as they thought - at least in swing states.
@RationalLeft Yes. Noise doesn’t equal numbers. They’re also finding out that more people are prochoice than they thought, including GOP women.
@Mydoggyruss Oh, yes.
One of the ultimate ironies is that *Trump* of all people warned them about that. How he managed an actual insight is beyond me. But he did warn that Dobbs would screw up the midterms.
@RationalLeft Supposedly, he’s paid for eight abortions. Just rumor, cannot confirm. Also, supposedly, he wanted Tiffany aborted so that he didn’t have to marry Marla. He’s never appeared particularly fond of Tiffany. So it might just be personal experience and not an actual insight.
And he’s the moron who installed the judges that overturned Roe 🙄
@Mydoggyruss The rumors are credible, but that's as far as you can go without more evidence.
And yes, he just recently attacked SCOTUS for Dobbs and talked about the justices he appointed as if they were imposed on Rs in a trick.
He's not a very smart man.
@RationalLeft True. Just heard around town.
That’s because he is trying to deflect blame from HIMSELF. He cost the GOP bigly, although the trigger laws and people like Don Bolduc callously saying that women should “just deal with” pain and suffering didn’t help them, or the party, either. The blatant misogyny was on full display.
@Mydoggyruss And of course Trump cut Bolduc loose the instant he lost. Bolduc actually lashed out at Trump's claim that he lost because he backed away from election denial.
@RationalLeft I remember. Too funny. And pathetic. Bolduc lost because he’s a monster, and stupid.
@Mydoggyruss Bolduc did try to back away from election denial... but then he made the "cat litter in schools for students who identify as furries" conspiracy theory his big closing pitch.
The polls claimed he was surging to a tie or lead. He was actually disastrously behind.
@RationalLeft Yeah, that idiot Heidi (running for Gov in CO) seized on the same stupid shit and ran with it, in spite of being publicly told by schools that the fire buckets (not litter boxes) were for use in case of lockdowns. Little kids have little bladders 🙄
The polls were a damn lying mess.
@Mydoggyruss Bolduc was told by R school districts that it was crap, and said he didn't believe them.
@RationalLeft Same with Heidi Ganahl. Just proved that both of them were too stupid to hold public office. One school district (Jefferson, I think) published an open letter, IIRC.
@Mydoggyruss That's the essence of conspiracy theories... disproof becomes part of the conspiracy, and thus proof.
@RationalLeft Ugh. So damn STUPID. Luckily, they both lost. And quietly faded away, AFAIK.
@Mydoggyruss Bolduc actually conceded surprisingly quietly. He even seemed to blame Trump for his loss, which is a bit rich frankly from such a MAGA type.
Most of the election deniers actually didn't actively deny their own defeats. Arizona was the one big exception.
@RationalLeft Yes. The fanatics are in total denial that AZ is leaning—and voting—blue.
@Mydoggyruss A shift being accelerated by the AZ R party going completely nuts.
The R state treasurer ran a normal campaign and won by 10 points. Rs then whined "why didn't SHE run for governor?" She DID. She dropped out because she was polling the single digits in the primary.
@RationalLeft Good. She needs to go away. She will, when the money dries up. It’s just a grift at this point.
@Mydoggyruss A lot of it is, yes. So much of her ranting is accompanied by "give me money so I can fight the results!"
Where is that money going? Trump did the same thing, and 90% of the money just disappeared.
@Mydoggyruss Ironically, given Lake's endless demands for a new election (though she prefers to just be declared the winner by fiat), I strongly suspect if the race were re-run now she'd lose much more decisively. People tried to ignore just how nuts she was because of her TV celebrity - she ran 4 points ahead of Masters and Finchem, who tried similar BS and lost badly.
But her insanity since the vote has been un-ignorable.
