Bacon has floated this before. But as far as I'm aware he remains the only R to raise it publicly.
@PoliticalEd If Rs approach Ds to try to negotiate a deal for a relatively sane R Speaker, Ds should negotiate.
But that's a huge "if." Most Rs will resist fiercely.
@RationalLeft AND it should come FROM the R side. Their majority, they need to make the first move. And Democrats should exact a steep price for such. @PoliticalEd
@LiberalLibrarian @PoliticalEd I agree, but Ds have already said they will only talk if Rs approach them.
@RationalLeft The ONLY thing the Dems should negotiate is which R's will vote Present or for Jeffries. They are 100% in the position of power right now.
@RationalLeft @PoliticalEd I'd like to see who could be identified as a "sane R" - they got rid of all of them, as far as I know.
@Gladari @PoliticalEd That's why I said "relatively sane."
@RationalLeft @PoliticalEd 😉 Yes, Gaetz, Boebert & MTG set a pretty low bar for comparisons!
@PoliticalEd @RationalLeft I think Jeffries would only need 5 R votes. I think there are only 2 of the 10 R's left in the House who voted to impeach TFG.
@RationalLeft He's hoping the Dems will get tired of the shenanigans and bail them out. I don't think the Dems feel the same.
Now, if they want to send a few more votes to Jeffries and make him Speaker, I imagine they would be okay with that.
