@mcfate Generally, that's true, yes. There are exceptions. No one really wanted Oz, e.g. The base was seething when Trump endorsed him. But he moved just enough of them for Oz to be nominated.

If you say so. How come he didn't "move" enough of them to get Oz ELECTED, though?

@mcfate Because Trump's base is only about a third of voters, and swing voters detested Oz.

The issue is whether Trump has influence over the party base, not over the broader electorate. Three straight losing cycles shows he doesn't control the electorate.

His record on controlling the base is very mixed. Often it controls him.
