So far I’ve chatted with folks and learned about knitting, opsec, Pokemon, cognitive bias, meditation, cooking, a wide variety of music, neurodiversity, and so much more. Also tons of cat, dog, bird, and hedgehog pictures.

You just did it. You posted, and everyone is able to read it. There is no algorithm only allowing certain people who follow you to see it or pushing it to people who don't follow you if they think it will "drive engagement."
And now you have some people replying.
You can do the same. Look for posts in the Firehose that are interesting and click on the name of the person posting to see what else they've posted. Maybe you want to follow them.

@PauloB This isn't like other sites where you try to get as many likes as possible, or gather the most followers. You interact with people who have similar interests, perhaps.
As an example, say you like dogs. You post a photo of your dog who is a German Shepherd. You'll want to tag it #dogs or #DogsOfCoSo. If you search either of those two hash tags (leaving off the #), you'll find other people who have used them. Read the posts and strike up a conversation.
