Keep in mind, I don't judge someone based on their beliefs, unless their beliefs are harmful towards marginalized groups. Bias and persecution is something that is joined hand in hand with every person, a bias fuels persecution and creates harmful views of groups of people that don't deserve it. If you have questions about trans people or the LGBT folk, ask. We're pretty open to talk and help break those biases. #LGBTQ
@PaganMother I can't understand the hatred and fear. In 99.99% of social interactions it doesn't matter. Say you're checking out my groceries; or drafting my living trust document; or repairing my roof. It doesn't matter what sort of genitals you have, or what sort you prefer, because genitals are not involved in any of those activities, not mine, not yours. Why would I even ask, let alone hate you for your answer? 😥
@walterbays I can understand the lack of grasp on the hate. A lot of the fear and hate is driven by misinformation, and beliefs that don't exactly welcome, embrace, or support marginalized people like the LGBTQ community are. I mean, most of us just want to live, pure and simple of it, but people over analyze those around them, "othering" mindset if you will, as an explanation, and target individuals that don't fit their perceived notions of what that gender, or sexuality they see in the other.
@walterbays This happens more frequently in face to face interactions than the online sphere, however there are some spaces that cultivate a welcome ground for hate to continue it's cycles. Twitter for instance, lack of moderation of hate speech, and misinformation has made it an absolute hotbed for spreading those same biases and beliefs without fact checking.
@PaganMother Suppose society were determined to prevent all sexual attacks on minors in public restrooms. Then would we ban gays from public restrooms? Ban trans? No. Look at reports of the small number of exploitation cases. Then we'd ban Republican office holders from those restrooms.
@walterbays From a friend of mine, on this topic actually.
Was talking about this on discord as well. Hang on, quoting.
@walterbays CrystalDragon — Today at 12:24 PM Yep.
*** — Today at 12:24 PM there are plenty of people with those intentions in the world that aren't cops and pastors and politicians. more than there -are- folks that are cops and pastors ect. 2/2
@walterbays In general summary, unions would hold these people in power accountable for their actions and choices, but would also displace the power balance that allows these crimes to be perpetrated in a cyclic manner.
@walterbays *** — Today at 12:22 PM A wise person once said. the ones who abuse the most are those with the most power to do it as they are the only ones able
CrystalDragon — Today at 12:23 PM nods.
*** — Today at 12:23 PM Those without the power, lack the power to abuse it.
It's why cops and pastors and shit often are seen more often abusing children 1/2
