My parents listened to country music. They probably dropped my IQ 5 points hearing that stuff.🙄
My dad bought a nice stereo and we grew up hearing Bing Crosby & The Dorsey boys, Frank Sinatra, Barbra Streisand, Harry Belefonte, Duke Ellington, Johnny Hodges, Red Norvo, Art Tatum along with Bob Newhart and Shelly Berman
Ya we had an old piano, and my mom could play and read. My dad couldn't hold a note or play a tune. But the record player was always on. My mom also taught me how to listen to jazz piano, Tatum, Monk, Peterson, Evans. I still to this day play very badly.
@OldDeckHand @corlin without question.

I grew up in a Jazz family.
My mom was particular on Thelonius Monk.
My dad on West Coast cool Jazz.
The very first concert, or club date was my dad sneaking me in to a club to see Modern Jazz Quartet
'62 or '63.
