What is happening in the Atlantic Ocean to the ?

Timing of the critical AMOC transition is still highly uncertain, but increasingly the evidence points to the risk being far greater than 10 % during this century – even rather worrying for the next few decades. The conservative IPCC estimate, based on climate models which are too stable and don’t get the full freshwater forcing, is in my view outdated now.

@NorthernInvader Only yesterday, Lord Frost of negotiation fame told the British public that they shouldn't worry about the because it would mean that fewer people will freeze. That will be a rude awakening in the UK with its barely insulated flats when the Gulf Stream stops providing warm air.

@NorthernInvader

This is good modeling of a very bad thing. If true, and I have no reason to doubt the findings…. A lot of Europe will not be food secure. Which means a very large numbers of refugees headed there well sooner or later have to go someplace else. And Europe is already in a downward demographics spiral..

@NorthernInvader

this is a big deal imo, a “but the emperor has no clothes” moment at all the climate modeling, including the UN, which has been too conservative in its erring. a disservice to the public/planet to say the least.

@peeppeepcircus Yes - the IPCC allowed some politics to moderate their early on findings.
