@NorCalCherylLyn I've heard of it. I'm supposedly part of it. But it still feels fake.

@NorCalCherylLyn
I’m Gen Jones. Depending on author, I am both Boomer & X in studies.
When the “Ok , Boomer” thing started I had no clue what the animosity was about. Still don’t.
Gen Jones is the last chunk of the Boomer years. That’s me. No connection to Dylan, or Vietnam War, no memory of JFK.
I remember AIDS & Reagan. LPs. Sex Pistols, The Cure, R.E.M. (all Gen Jones too)
I was raised by tv & the microwave oven blew our minds. 😂
Yep, I own this tee.

@LnzyHou @NorCalCherylLyn
🎯
I have 5 siblings, all older. All “boomers”. We are a decent cross section of that time.
1 wealthy & very comfortable
1 in debt(!) but appeared wealthy
1 granola hippie, no money
1 comfortable then married into wealth later
2 middle class, me included, neither of us wanted to pursue riches

@Anouk @NorCalCherylLyn

This boomer has had the big jobs, houses, cars & exotic trips. I’m happiest when wandering this country in my built-out van.

Rich beyond measure, my life is simple, peaceful & satisfying.

I’ve earned it.

@Anouk @NorCalCherylLyn I think I fit squarely into this generation, also. Although, out of curiosity, I like things from previous and subsequent generations.. I never really fit in, anywhere, I think Lol. Am ok with that most of the time, though.

@Museek @NorCalCherylLyn
Same! Maybe Gen Jones didn’t fit into any cultural group, freeing us to love vintage shit and sci-fi. 😄

@Museek @Anouk I didn’t either. Was born too late to really get in on the Hippy movement but I heavily identify that way. Also feel pretty Gen X most of the time. Really think I was born at an optimum time for me. ☮️❤️🎸

@Anouk @NorCalCherylLyn I'm a Boomer (1959) and I intensely dislike the condescending Boomer crap. Gen Z, or whatever we're on now who's posting this stuff, can kiss my Boomer ass.

@Anouk @NorCalCherylLyn
I am astonished. I was born in 1955. I vividly remember JFK and exactly where I was when he was assassinated. I was 8. I listened to Dylan & all the folk-singing anti-war artists. My oldest brother was drafted. 2 people we knew died in Vietnam. I was 14. Funny tee but nope, I identify as !

@wolfwoman @Anouk @NorCalCherylLyn
I was born in 1961. I don't remember JFK or vietnam. I discovered the Beatles about 2 years before I discovered the Ramones.

@chuck242 @Anouk @NorCalCherylLyn
JFK, very understandable since you were only 2 when he was assassinated. But at age 7 & up, the Vietnam years, it was constantly in the news. Of course, not everyone even owned a TV to see all the film from there. And some parents didn't expose their kids to the news - mine did 🤷🏼

@wolfwoman @NorCalCherylLyn
Like all confusing things on the internet, some have Gen Jones starting in 1957.
Which makes sense.
All I know is I’d previously been grouped into “boomer” but I had no shared experiences with boomers.

@Anouk @NorCalCherylLyn
Simply a bit surprised, since I've never heard the term before now. But someone born in 1957 would have been 6, and probably in K or 1st grade in 1963. I can't imagine anyone of that age not recalling JFK. At least his assassination - it was the only thing on TV for days! Born at the edge, 1964? 5 years old during Vietnam & The Summer of Love. So I'm not doubting you or your experiences, it just seems very odd to me. 🤔

@wolfwoman @NorCalCherylLyn
Because of Dad’s job, we moved back n’ forth between Canada & USA the whole time I was growing up. My hippie bell-bottomed older siblings of the 70s considered me a pain in the ass. 😂
I remember where I was when John Lennon was killed.

@Anouk @wolfwoman Vividly remember when Lennon was killed. Was at work at list it for a bit. 💔

@NorCalCherylLyn @Anouk I was married and soon to have my first child. Bestie from CA called me, distraught. We cried together on the phone.

@wolfwoman @Anouk I was born mid 1957. Definitely remember JFK’s assignation. Remember Vietnam, Haight Ashbury, the fire hoses and dogs biting children.

@Anouk @NorCalCherylLyn
Gen Jones here too. No memory of JFK, but I do remember seeing Vietnam War on the news at night. And when it ended my daddy took me out to listen to all the church bells ringing in town. But def the precursor to GenX. Issued a house key at the age of 6 and babysitting for money at age 12. TV helped raise us all.

@CinnamonGirlE @NorCalCherylLyn
I forgot about the babysitting. I hated to do it. 😁
The majority of Gen Jones did not have WW2 veteran fathers, and we mostly had stay-at-home Moms.
I’m sure Vietnam news was on our ONE black & white tv, I just don’t remember.

@Anouk @NorCalCherylLyn
Most of my friends did have SAHM's. My mom worked though. And I was tasked with helping care for little sis once I proved I could care for myself. Which was pretty early on.

@Anouk @CinnamonGirlE I had 4 younger brothers and babysitting was called “family”. It was not fun!

@NorCalCherylLyn @Anouk
I Had a younger sister and was the oldest of all my cousins. Built in babysitter in me.
I think my family still sees me that way at times. 😂

@NorCalCherylLyn

I've heard of it. It's kind of a subcategory since the Baby Boomer gen is so massive, and younger Boomers often don't quite feel like they belong with the elder Boomers.

Kinda like how we have "Elder Millennials" now who have one foot in with Gen X.

@Agatha there are gens within gens and it gets to the point it’s ridiculous. Our movies, music, cars and food change with time but people really don’t. GenJones is kind perfect for me. Not quite Boomer but not GenX either.

@NorCalCherylLyn

My sister is a later 1950s Boomer who wasn't old enough to really be a part of the protesting hippie gen, and she's not at all conservative politically. My brother was born in 1965 and, depending on which chart you look at, ends up in both gens. But, he's definitely more like an X in music, attitude, etc. But he's more optimistic than the typical X. 😂

So "Jones" fits them both better (but without much care for "keeping up with the Joneses".)

@NorCalCherylLyn @Agatha
Same for me with Gen Jones. The "keeping up with the Jonses" part doesn't suit me at all. I have always done my own thing with little thought of trying to impress others.

@NorCalCherylLyn Thanks for sharing that! I'm mildly astonished. I guess it's not widespread 🤷🏼
