@Periwinkle people are uncomfortable talking about another Depression because it is scary. But given the economic indicators, I think we MUST face the possibility that our economy is presently swirling around the drain, and about to go down, particularly since the one thing that was holding it somewhat together, the $600 per week unemployment, just ended.
My son works for a major corporation as a high level economist. He is conservative. He is NOT alarmist. He called me to tell me...
@Periwinkle you and millions of others. I hope you get it back soon!
We’ve been fortunate in some ways. My job is “essential” so I have been working throughout this pandemic. The downside is we are older with health issues and if I catch it, I am at high risk for death or serious illness. Worse, my husband is a semi-invalid and VERY HIGH RISK.
If I were a few years older, I would retire...
@Periwinkle @Myrth It's all so scary. I decided to retire rather than return to on site work. The financials are tight, I'll need to find something to supplement my retirement income, but I'm taking the big scary plunge. I'm worried that I'll lose my life's savings in a Depression... but it's time to make a change.
Sending you both good karma for safe passage through these crazy days.
Thanks for the positive energies. Sending you all positive energy too. 💜💜
These times are challenging for all of us in one way and another. We will make it through.
@Periwinkle good for you on the weight! Anything we can do to improve our health right now is good! I have asthma and am a cancer survivor with blood type A, so in addition to age as a risk factor, I have a few others piled on top of that. I am taking extra vitamins to be sure my immune system has everything it could possibly need and we are eating a lot of veggies from the garden. Just trying to maximize health so maybe if we do get exposed we can throw it off.
@Periwinkle as to family, my dad is gone, my mom needs to go to a nursing home but cannot due to COVID. So she’s got some home care. She cannot stay with us because my job would put her at extreme risk.
The kids... so far are doing ok. We have one military family, one first responder family, one lawyer family, and one economist family. Hoping they all do ok, but if they need to come home, we’ll try to accommodate. Somehow.
Best wishes. 💜💜
@Myrth I’m 58 and pre-diabetic. I lost a bunch of weight though and feel great now. I went down 2 sizes since February.
My dad is 91. I lost mom in January. My 25 year old daughter is due September 13th with a baby girl. She may end up moving home again which I’m ok with.
But.. given all this, I had a 50k job offer 2 weeks ago but it has no benefits and that’s about a 15k a year cut for me. I did no
