Why does no one want to talk about how close we are to a collapse right now?
Personally I would feel better if people actually faced the possibility and talked about what we could do to prepare ourselves.

@Periwinkle people are uncomfortable talking about another Depression because it is scary. But given the economic indicators, I think we MUST face the possibility that our economy is presently swirling around the drain, and about to go down, particularly since the one thing that was holding it somewhat together, the $600 per week unemployment, just ended.

My son works for a major corporation as a high level economist. He is conservative. He is NOT alarmist. He called me to tell me...

@Myrth I was getting the extra 600. Coincidently my regular unemployment is 602. In Minnesota you get 50% wages with a cap that I didn’t reach.

Yes, I stopped paying bills and some will be late. This will continue until I know they passed something

@Periwinkle you and millions of others. I hope you get it back soon!

We’ve been fortunate in some ways. My job is “essential” so I have been working throughout this pandemic. The downside is we are older with health issues and if I catch it, I am at high risk for death or serious illness. Worse, my husband is a semi-invalid and VERY HIGH RISK.

If I were a few years older, I would retire...

@Myrth I’m 58 and pre-diabetic. I lost a bunch of weight though and feel great now. I went down 2 sizes since February.

My dad is 91. I lost mom in January. My 25 year old daughter is due September 13th with a baby girl. She may end up moving home again which I’m ok with.

But.. given all this, I had a 50k job offer 2 weeks ago but it has no benefits and that’s about a 15k a year cut for me. I did no

@Periwinkle @Myrth It's all so scary. I decided to retire rather than return to on site work. The financials are tight, I'll need to find something to supplement my retirement income, but I'm taking the big scary plunge. I'm worried that I'll lose my life's savings in a Depression... but it's time to make a change.
Sending you both good karma for safe passage through these crazy days.
