Petition calls on Disney to drop 'Hakuna Matata' trademark

Cultural appropriation at its most absurd, Disney trademarked a common phrase.

@Myrth Disney has a record of being extremely aggressive on trademark and IP in general. I remember a brou-ha-ha in the UK when a woman who decided to hold a charity fundraiser where she was showing Disney cartoons was shocked by a nasty Cease and Desist from Disney's legal rottweilers. Disney soon backed off when a firestorm of "go fuck yourself" indignation erupted.

@Myrth Then there was the extended legal tussle over the Oregon Ducks' use of a duck that Disney decided bore more than a passing resemblance to another Duck whose name begins with D. That tussle ended with Disney backing down and agreeing to a perpetual license for the use of the duck by the university, probably because the judge did one of the judgely things along the lines of "you can pursue this case, but you might not like my final ruling".
