This is cool and appropriate. I’m not in East Tacoma where this is happening, but where I live is within the Puyallup Reservation, and I’d love to see this same thing here.
Tacoma will soon get 170+ new, distinctive street signs.
About 174 brown signs will be placed beneath existing green placards and depict honorary road names in the Puyallup Tribe of Indians’ native language (Twulshootseed).

I'm moving to Tacoma next year. (Around May)
@tyghebright holler when you get here. :)
wow... small world! i just took my first trip to Puyallup. i'm terrified of I-5 so I pulled up back roads on the GPS and it was the most harrowing 45 minutes ever! I drove back to Tacoma on the fastest route avail- took 20 min. The street sign is illegible on my street- must be an original. I called a couple of times, requesting a replacement- never got an answer. I'm very excited to hear this news. I'm calling tomorrow to make sure My Street gets a sign for sure!
Well, I'm glad that East Tacoma will get signs. And it's a great addition to have the two signs to preserve the culture. I just checked my zipcode and I'm Central Tacoma. Think I might make a visit in person with some photos of my illegible street sign.
I really love living in Washington... it's a great state.
@MookyTroubadour , the neighbors here have dual signage in several places in both Anishinaabemowin and English.
