No one can escape from the structures of Christian nationalism. And as a white (heteronormal appearing male) person, I’m benefitting from it regardless of my religious beliefs.

I served over 30 years in a fire dept. in a Dallas suburb. Promotions stopped for me at the rank of captain. Beyond captain is appointed. I am a liberal yankee. The new Fire Chief sat down with me to rub my nose in his promotion. I asked one question... what do you think the most important quality of a Chief is? He replied 'righteousness'. He can barely tie his own shoes but because he attends the right church he got the job.
