I always plant sunflowers and have a few volunteers where the birdfeeder was all winter as well.

Plant many and spray them with the stinky deer and rabbit spray. It is non-toxic and doesn't bother the birds.

@MelissaHDavis @Minholkin Nice! I've tried planting them before and have had a few volunteers over the years but some squirrel or ground hog climbs it and breaks the head off before it's fully open. LOL Maybe the trick is to plant many?
