@McMarkerson Unfortunately with ADHD that's the default action.
@McMarkerson Life is too short to spend time reading a book that you don't connect with on some level. For me, it's usually unexpected graphic violence, rough sexual scenes, or outlandish spins on historical situations.
@McMarkerson If something isn't right with a book, and I'm getting annoyed at it, I'll go ahead and wiki / google the reviews.
If whatever is annoying me about the book is either a) mentioned as a continuing theme or b) mentioned as a 'highlight' ... I put it away.
Sword of Truth series got the boot about midway through the second book.
@McMarkerson I’ll just put a book down if I’m not feeling it. Sometimes it’s just not what I’m in the mood for, but I’ll try again later and be glad I did. My hubby is committed from page one, even if he doesn’t enjoy it. I remember when he finished The Road and threw it across the room 😆
@TheOtherLisa3 Yeah...The Road was so dark and unrelenting.
@McMarkerson I made the mistake of watching the Expanse before reading the books. It's a bit confusing now that I'm into the third book. But in general, I put a book aside and come back to it in a few weeks to see if it was me or the book. Second time around tells the truth.
@McMarkerson
Weak writing skills. A would-be interesting character is instantly ruined by weak writing. Otherwise, lack of downtime is the only thing that makes me put a good book down.
@Momis I never put a good book down...well, if life gets in the way I come back to it.
@McMarkerson I dunno, man, I suffered through the entirety of Infinite Jest. Comes a point where it's nothing but pride pushing you through.
