ON this date in 1956 - NFL commissioner Bert Bell disallowed the use of radio-equipped helmets by NFL quarterbacks.

Bun Man still shrieks when he remembers the story of Y.A. Title wearing his helmet w/ that big, long antenna protruding from the top.

Y.A. put his head down on a QB run and completely pierced DB Jonny VanStreuben along the sideline.

It was a gory mess...all the NFL King's horses, all the NFL King's men and even Mr. Purple couldn't put Jonny back together again.
