Even in Congress, a journey of some distance begins with a first step...

ON this date in 1892 - Jesse W. Reno patented the Reno Inclined Elevator. It was the first escalator. Local firemen, Bun Man and Mr. Purple, were called for a rescue mission later that day when two Congressmen were stuck on the escalator after it broke down. They couldn't figure out how to take the first step.
A rescue mission is in order now as today's congressional sample can't seem to figure out a 'first step' either.
