Biological classification is a system used by scientists to describe organisms1. The classification system commonly used today is based on the Linnean system and has eight levels of taxa23. From the most general to the most specific, these are:
Domain
Kingdom
Phylum (or Division for plants)
Class
Order
Family
Genus
Species
