@Madken65 you CAN just say no to commercialism. maybe a background of Great Depression parents/grandparents, and almost homeless poverty my adult self makes it easier to critically examine new stuff & decide if i really need to spend money on it (OTOH, it also tends to give one hoarding tendencies)
anyway, i have a "want vs need" filter first, then i amortize every item figuring lifespan vs cost...
