ON this date in 1798 – A brawl broke out in the House of Representatives in Philadelphia.
Matthew Lyon of Vermont spat in the face of Roger Griswold of Connecticut, who responded by attacking him with a hickory walking stick.
Lyon was re -elected congressman while serving a jail sentence for violating the Sedition Acts of 1798.

Reading this, Mr. Purple turns to me and Bun and says "So, today's shenanigans by both parties appear to be nothing new; we've been doing this stuff since at least 1798."
Bun Man piped up "It only seems more stark now because that Variety Show on Fox (suspiciously called FOX Morning News) keeps playin' it that way..."
