YOU DON'T SEND ME FLOWERS, AND WE DON'T HANG TOGETHER ANYMORE
Culdesac, in short, is an experiment to save one of the most endangered aspects of American life: a place to hang out.
Third spaces, which include bars, parks, coffee shops, libraries, and even sidewalks, have been in decline for decades. Racism, classism, the climate crisis, over-policing, a car-based economy, and the privatization and rising costs of amenities have all narrowed access to them.
@Madken65 Completely agree with the concept except what an unfortunate name.
The cul de sac is an _obstacle_ to walkability, emergency response, community. They're a symptom of lousy car-centric planning.
@Madken65 There are few places to hang out. Interesting article.
