ON this date in 1998 - Three federal judges secretly granted Kenneth Starr authority to probe whether U.S. President Clinton or Vernon Jordan urged Monica Lewinsky to lie about her relationship with Clinton.

Two of the judges, Bun Man and Mr Purple, found no justification of any coercion, but they did find they had had sex way fewer times than they previously thought given how the President defined it.
