"One person who spoke with Biden said the president felt Netanyahu had humiliated both Blinken and Biden with his back-and-forth about a cease-fire proposal with Hezbollah.

Netanyahu at first told U.S. officials he supported a pause in fighting with the ... militant group, then roundly rejected the cease-fire proposal once it was made public."

It's okay to feel frustrated.

The world is run by warmongers & those who keep trying to reason with them. 🫂

Alternate proposal:

Give this world back to the beetles.

They already outnumber us in biomass!

And they're amazing recyclers, to boot.

@MLClark If we could amend that to Beatles, I would be more receptive. 🙃

@poemblaze

🤔 In zombie forms, or are we just giving the keys to Paul and Ringo?

@MLClark Was hoping for a full resurrection and winding back of all their ages.

@MLClark Hell, I'd give them the keys. They can lock the door when they both leave our plane. @poemblaze

@MLClark

I feel terrified for the Israeli people and all those connected in this war. But if feels like is completely out of control and won't stop the bombing until he's eliminated thousands more.

My concern is that we continue to support Israel- but not keep sending weapons & ammunition to a leader who is ignoring all the rest of the world.

I think Americans support Israel, but not Netanyahu.

@QueenOfEverything

Many Westerners don't understand that a far-right coalition pushed the already extreme Likud Party even further to the right. Their goals are an expansion of borders to regain the greater Israel they see as their holy entitlement, & right from Oct 7, they've been using this as their chance--at cost to fellow Israelis, who were fighting right-wing corruption long before Oct.

US Evangelicals love this. Everyone else is in pain, helpless to do more for human decency & peace. 🫂

@QueenOfEverything

(Also, not to put too fine a point on it, but this is the kind of nightmare we're all hoping the US will avoid in November, too - and Canada, thereafter. If the worst should happen in November, the US will become a worse place, too, while still being filled with many decent people struggling to make it better. That's the same for every part of the world where extreme right-wing nationalists reign.)

@MLClark

Exactly... I'm not casting any stones because we are in the same/just as bad only in a different way here in our country.

How sad, to me, extreme right-wing nationalists aren't really for people... they're against everyone who doesn't think, act, and believe exactly as they do. Never read that in any bible or basics of most religions. The Rule of Hate.

@QueenOfEverything

Well said, Queen.

You also hinted at the remedy:

Nationalists want others to reduce everyone to nationalist groupthink too. They are *not* democratic, and can thus be diminished whenever we refuse to play the game on their terms, by talking about people in demographic absolutes.

Israelis are not a hivemind.
US citizens aren't, either. Or Canucks. Or Palestinians.

So long as we keep firmly talking about our shared humanity, we can save our democracies, and hope for peace.

@MLClark 70+ years of death to the jews has pushed people on both sides to extremes. Some think complete takeover is the only way to security. Hamas, Hezbollah, and other extremists also use this to their advantage to prevent any peace talks from occuring. Human decency would have been to work out peace agreement years ago and use money on rebuilding instead of tunnels. @QueenOfEverything

@MLClark

Now I understand... it's disgusting how "holy entitlement" isn't "holy" or "entitled." And it's killing people and destroying countries. Never in all my years, did I think our country would support a trump in politics. Here we are and our country is burning.

I listened to trump speaking to the Israeli American Conf & he was really hitting on the borders they "deserve" instead of the "teeny tiny DOT where Israel stands". That's the HOT BUTTON and the crowd cheered.

@QueenOfEverything

I should caveat the "holy" part with an critical element:

Many militant Israelis are *secular* - including Netanyahu! Since the 1930s there's been a strain of Jewish nationalism that looks with contempt on "weaker" Jews (a little like how "warrior Christianity" looks with contempt on people who follow a "meek" Christ), and they've joined with the messianics.

The consequence? *In Israel*, devout Jews praying for peace are bullied by secular militants. A true abuse of faith.

@QueenOfEverything Americans are a mixed bag. Some don't support Israel. Some support Israel but don't like Net. Some support Israel due to religion. Some do not support Israel due to religion. I used to love Net until he became a Trump kisser, enabled our far right, and knee capped antifascists who would stand against nazis in US. But Hamas is worse than Ben. So is Hezbollah. Arab/Muslim nationalism are also race/religion nationalists. It's not just White Christians and Jews. @MLClark
