Today for Tough Times Tuesday, we look beyond the initial glow of Mexico's latest presidential contest to consider the depth of the challenge that lies ahead for this climate scientist in office.
When juggling the urgency of climate change mitigation alongside the inevitability of other political priorities, can Claudia Sheinbaum reverse course in time, or will middle-of-the-road solutions triumph again?

One of her biggest challenges is likely to be dealing with the crime syndicates in and passing through the country.
I wish her all the success.
"Cartels" come in many forms, and I have a sneaking suspicion there are some entrenched power brokers in the state-owned petroleum and electricity monopolies who are going to be just as tricky to manage as many of the crime syndicates not operating under formal state sanction.
As Tyghe notes, this is going to be one to watch! And all our best wishes are indeed for her success.
@MLClark she does have Jesús by her side. Many challenges ahead, climate but one.
Oh, I didn't even get into how much the Virgin Mary vibe was a HUGE part of the success of (La) Morena on the campaign trail. 😂 That's a whole other kettle of pescado!
@MLClark soy vey!

It's going to be very interesting to see her approach, and how she both balances climate change with other governing priorities and manages public resistance to the needed changes.
