Apparently that rich coloration on the inside is the mark of the male of the species! But still - it's a route with many dogs who come bounding past on morning walks, so the poor fella needed a better roost. Hope he found it!

Here's a bit of the glorious violet wings they were hiding. Tired after a long night, I'm sure, but choosing a dangerous place to rest on a sidewalk with a lot of through-traffic. #Nature
