I'm trying to finish three half-drafted pieces (consequence of a scattered workflow amid the local celebrations).

Brain's all over the place, though, so here's a wee activity I sometimes do to sharpen my mind again: drabble challenges!

I need four things:
1) an unusual word (but not too long, for character count reasons);
2) a location (anywhere in time & space);
3) a tone for the story; &
4) a missing item (literal or figurative).

If you'd be so kind, I'll write you a wee toot of a tale. :)

This drabble business is a good distraction - and not just because of the ongoing noise outside, but because I'm also not happy with the latest SNW, and trying not to get too grouchy in my review while talking about the state of Western restriction on acceptable forms of care, as advanced through an alien species here, and going against a well-known Trekkie status quo, just to serve a specific character arc.

(Also: we're DEFINITELY talking about age casting for Spock's mom. 🙃 More tomorrow!)

They will tell you Nurgle won that day on Sabatine--the final day of Sabatine.

They will tell you the Fly Lord swept pestilence over White Consul, & all who remained bent the knee to beg for cheer amid their suffering thereafter.

They will forget the relics in the vault.

Overlook the Leviathans yet slumbering there.

Oh how the Chapter marches on, in search of a new world!

But also... how one marine, interred & waiting, is dreaming: one day, somehow, of reclaiming his own world.

@elmaxx

(Kind of difficult to imagine a WarHammer story *not* being grimdark, eh? 😉)

This is so awesome and any CoSoNaut can be the fortunate recipient of M.L. Clark’s Children of Doro, published in May 2023!

Lee's "Dream of Union" had opened too soon, she was sure of it.

Even at 110, Seoul's MMCA boasted cutting-edge art, but was it enough?

"Hey," said Kim. "Not your fault the treaty's delayed. But events like this keep hope alive, right?"

Lee surveyed her garden exhibit: the gem of the gala. In it, Southern & Northern diplomats eyed each other, but still wandered the peace flowers, waiting to pick & speak forgiveness through one.

And any minute now, they would.

Any minute, surely.

Xavi was tense & his charges noticed. They'd made it to Ibiza: the island's nightlife in the distance. So why tense? But wherever tourists, also police.

"Is ok. We close na?"

Xavi nodded without looking at the men who'd put their trust in him. The handoff to a slaver was near. Just this once, he'd promised himself. Then he'd buy ID in this Draconian system, start over, repent.

A patrol light fell on them.

The men spooked.

But Xavi was surprised by his relief at being caught.

@CanisPundit

The LLM's not ignoring you! You're missing an "f" in the usertag. :)

@MLClark oh silly me. Thank you! I now can say I have a prefessional arthur as my editur.
