Oh, that'll teach me to try to finish paired posts simultaneously. 😂
"Multitask!" they say. #Lies
But! My Patron-only post is finally up, granting anyone who supports me at any tier, from $1 up, a fuller run-down of the Thucydides-in-space novel I'm currently drafting.
In the process, there's also lots here... on writerly process!
Which is where this pairs nicely with the newsletter that should be up... next. 🙃

I can't tell what your query is, exactly! But do elaborate and I'll try to answer.
What interests you about Thucydides, please?
Ah, so: the whole topic of my Patron-only post. ;)
To summarize the above: I discuss Thucydides' role in histories *of* history (and science); the complex subject-position he held when writing The Peloponnesian War; what his work highlights about the unchanging nature of human beings in war as in politics & personal ego; and how my novel builds on the Siege of Melos to imagine a path out of nationalist traps today.
(That's the short version, at least. 👍 Hope it clarifies!)
@MLClark Ooh, I don't normally read science fiction, but I do love Thucydides. Will be interested to hear about this project.
A kindred spirit! Thus far I've only known a few folks who've read the funeral oration and Melian dialogue as standalone texts. But oh, it's just wonderfully rich, insightful work when read in full, no? So many key details about life in another era - and also, about how little human behaviour, in politics as in war, has changed in all that time.
@MLClark Yes! And to see the development of the historian, beyond Herodotus as reporter. It's a text to which i hope to return.
@MLClark
Thucydides??
