I think it's fine, even essential, to raise kids this way (m=m & f=f) but adults should have the freedom to self define. Reinvention is the American Way.
The GOP are all about persecuting people for being different (wrong color, hair too long, funny clothes, sex doesn't fit their strict definition, yer not from around here are ye?).
@jjGravitas I'll admit I get a little iffy on the notion of medical gender reassingment for kids, but identity evolves over time and a big part of that takes place when we're young. Let trans-kids be trans, or not, as they choose. Either way no government has the right to regulate it.

Not a parent but if I were I would counsel my child that gender is what you're born with, your equipment, as it were. Your toys, the games you play, don't define your sex. You can buy into the roles set up by society or define it to suit yourself. Sex is biology, male is male, female is female, determined by your chromosomes. Can't change that nor should you want to. Operations & hormone pills only change the surface.
