@_Ms_J We do agree. I've posted for the last 12 days or so on the topic of the school shutdowns, and the issues surrounding it. all the posts can be found on my TL. from lack of broadband access for remote learning, single parents not being able to be home for kids to remote learn, school meal programs being the only meals for some kids, and this current topic.
@LibertySpeaks I have voiced the same concerns on the bird site and to people involved. Our district did have interventions to deal with some of the issues.
@_Ms_J did you find solutions that are workable?
@LibertySpeaks
Here is the problem: Why is it society (via government)put the onus on schools to provide food, healthcare, and safety to students?
If the problem is so pervasive and dire, we need a team of people equipped with the resources to intervene and help kids that is available 24/7. It takes a village to raise a child so we need more volunteers, non-profits, and supports
@_Ms_J The burden should have never fallen on the schools, decades ago these issues were not prevalent as they are today. Whether it be single parents, both parents working, poverty, man I could go on, but because school for the most part is the one constant in a childs life, it was an inevitable shift of the burden. This is what we now face.
@LibertySpeaks Yeah.. we are at a good place to reassess the role of schools and make things better.
And once this crisis is dealt with via vaccine, it will be a good place to reassess all the rot and shortcomings of predatory commercialism and the way the working and middle class has been given the ass end of the stick for 3 decades by Wall Street and the super-wealthy.
The hypocrisy, greed, abuse and pain it’s caused is legion.
@LibertySpeaks @_Ms_J
Schools and libraries, have always been the places where curious and bright kids have had a chance to escape dysfunctional, abusive families and begin to carve out a better future for themselves. From the 1800s to present day IMHO. Look at A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, for example and other classic lit like it.
@_Ms_J It started with me doing a couple polls
