@LiberalLibrarian Where I live in Wisconsin they get from $15 to $18/hrs. It is goddam thievery.

And it's not like the servers at Waffle House work less hard than the servers at a high end steak house, where the tips based on percentage of the meal and alcohol will be many times higher.
Yeah. Wait staff "base pay" is far far below minimum wage because they're expected to make most of their money in tips. This is to motivate them to be stellar wait staff so they earn "huge tips."
And of course, if they're earning "huge tips" then the restaurant doesn't have to pay them hardly anything because they've got all that extra money from those ginormous fat tips they're getting at Waffle House. 🙄
