@janallmac Exactly. It's not a military based on merit. It's even worse than during Soviet times. If the US had been the one invading Ukraine, it really would have been over in a week or two. The Russian military is a Potemkin facade.

It makes me think how very important freedom of speech and laws that apply to everyone, even those in power, are. We're messed up in many ways in the U.S., I know this, but I hope those are two ideals we keep.

Interesting. This may be one reason they aren't performing as well as might be expected militarily. The guys who are supposed to be in charge of things are taking bribes and probably also terrified of speaking up because they might get thrown out a window. I've heard there are a lot of standard businesses practices worldwide that might be considered corrupt.
