Everyone in my house cooks. I can cook well. My kids have all been taught to cook. My husband cooks.
Someone wanted clam chowder because it's a rainy day, so hubby is making clam chowder from scratch for lunch.
@JeniRizio That's why I learned. My parents divorced and when he had the kids we didn't eat because he didn't cook. But I was hungry and had little siblings, so I learned to cook for us.
@LianaBrooks In my case, my parents were very controlling and the maternal unit kicked me out of the kitchen. I learned as an adult after my BFF taught me. The parents wanted me financially dependent on them the rest of my life. It's gross. I broke free two years ago May 1st and have been healing from those trauma bonds.
@JeniRizio My mother once told me she only had me because she wanted someone to take care of her when she was old. My entire purpose, in her eyes, was to take care of her and praise her. I worked and gave her my money. I cooked. I cleaned. I raised my younger siblings.
When I had my own kids I cut her off and told her they were my priority. We didn't talk for a couple of years. Now we have limited contact.
@JeniRizio But my parents are part of the reason I looked for work on the other side of the planet.
@LianaBrooks I am sorry you went through all that. :(
@LianaBrooks I stayed with one boyfriend extra long just because he made the best clam chowder!!
@LianaBrooks I taught myself to cook out of desperation because nobody in my family taught me. My food is a lot cheaper and tastes better.
