It's named after the chocolate, which was originally produced by a man named Samuel German, who worked for the Baker's Chocolate Company.

Which explains why the best version I ever had of it was from a Greek restaurant.

I think I knew that in the back of my head. But living in pa dutch area it is very much associated with Germany.
