@Kurtroedeger please don’t take this the wrong way, but I would love to see all of your house. It just looks so interesting. #notacreeper #justlikelooking 🤣🙂
@Novels56 living room view from my chair right now
Here is the fine selection of dog toys for the fuzzbutts
Entryway behind me with computer nook and kiddo.
@Novels56 please ignore the massive amount of clutter in the kitchen and dining room, and the laundry rack 😂. It has been some long weeks and .....::waves hand :: blah blah. I made the little doors below the stairs for the pantry from the same wood we used for the flooring.
Kitchen was an absolute steal for what we paid. Found factory cabinets, so not that custom markup. Tile, cabinets, counters AND appliances was $15k when we built. Backsplash is tin, easy self install, magnetic too.
@Novels56 wife wanted a curve shape or something 'not just a rectangle' to the patio, so I painted markings on the ground and it has two curves out like this. She agreed and I made sure not to point out that on aerial pic it would look like the house has boobs 🤭. And the Casita where I hide the inlaws in when they visit (which is often) 🤷♂️
@Novels56 master bedroom is on the first floor. Wife is drifting to sleep right now so not gonna go turn lights on for pics, had to dig through older ones. It's the doorway in the background of the kitchen pic, and just to the right of that door is the computer nook kiddo was at. Behind the fridge around the corner is the half bath. The vanity in there is one of my favorite things we made. Same with the old cedar shingle focal wall in the bedroom.
@Novels56 I forgot the mirror, that's an old window frame.from. my parents house I grew up in. 😂 It was laying around so I asked my dad. Yoink., now mine. There is probably lead paint underneath the paint I put on it 😬, but it just hangs there and no kids are gnawing on it. So it's ok.
@Kurtroedeger lol….I think it’s safe…I love the details of where you got things.
@Novels56 sorry if I'm rambling on too much. I get on a topic sometimes....
Here's a drone shot with the house on the right side. Sadly we lost the giant trees out front, emerald ash borer and lightning ☹️ they really set the house in the landscape.
@Kurtroedeger keep going…I don’t mind. I’m trying to figure out what the dark round looking things are in the bottom right of the picture.
@Novels56 alfalfa bales. Farmer wraps them in the plastic and they do a fermenting type thing like that for feed for the dairy cows he raises
Sorry to jump in Kurt—did you build your home or refinish it? I can’t temember
@Minholkin @Novels56 built. Contractor did the timber frame and outside walls which are SIPs, super insulation. I did most of the rest. Not plumbing though, nor siding or tile, or drywall. I'm okay at those, but focused on other things instead. Had to balance cost of those trades vs what I knew and where I could save money. For example, I knew I could do plumbing or electrical, but not time for both, so I got quotes and hired the cheaper of the two and did the other one myself.
Neat!! Did you hide things along the way so that someday, someone might encounter your whimsical humor as they update and renovate? Like, generations from now? 😄
hee hee hee!!
@Minholkin @Novels56 in our first house we owned I installed crown molding in the bedroom, which is a tedious thing for me. I wrote in sharpy on the wall 'why would you take the molding off, do you know how long it took me to install!!!!'
@Kurtroedeger @Minholkin @Novels56
You know it'll be a box of mouldy cookies, right?! Right?!

Also, nice house tour. 👍
Hats off to you on all the hard work you put in. 🙇♀️
@raspberrypanda @Minholkin @Novels56 please, like I'd leave uneaten cookies 🙄 you should know me better by now.
There is more than one time capsule, little things written here and there, a poem or two. Lots of things have the date installed written on them.
@raspberrypanda @Minholkin @Novels56
Thread continues...panda may want to avert her gaze, this is where clutter gets...kablooey.
Top of stairs pic with bathroom on left, next door is little hall closet, which has a beam visible in it. Behind the box. All rooms except bathrooms and 1 closet have beams in them.
Straight ahead is kiddos room. Closed door is another BR we use as office. Right door is storage. View of upstairs bath, and from other end of hall looking back.
@raspberrypanda @Minholkin @Novels56 loft space/kiddos play area. Storage room with ladder because we don't have a basement (high water table) and minimal attic space. Office is exploded right now because we are sorting things for donate, trash, etc. Pictures on top of the shelves my grandma painted (she was more than shortbread cookies). The display cabinet is wife's G-pa WWII uniform. He was at pearl harbor. Kiddos room is opposite wall of the shelves and mirror image, but with bigger closet.
@raspberrypanda @Minholkin @Novels56
Last is the laundry/utility room that connects the garage to the house. We need an air exchanger on the wall because the insulation is so good in the house the air would be bad for us. We have geothermal so the one hot water tank is a buffer waste heat tank. The hot water pulls from what is prewarmed water and not 50° ground water, so has to work less. Could do just a tank, but for 50gal. A hot water heater is the cheapest option.
@raspberrypanda @Minholkin @Novels56
Pic attached 🤦♀️. Bonus of a second tank, plumbed it and if the hot water tank dies, I just have to run a wire and turn a couple valves, and I have hot water again. 10 minutes effort and can change the actual tank out at my convenience. Never got around to painting this room either. 🤦♀️
But it also has a beam in it #spoiled.
@raspberrypanda @Minholkin @Novels56 I think that's the whole house tour, unless you want to see the Casita. 😂
Thank you for attending Kurt's house tour. Please make sure to visit the gift shop on your way out.
@Kurtroedeger This has been the best virtual house tour I’ve ever had. 🙂 Are there cookies in the gift shop? Probably not. Ha!
@Novels56 @raspberrypanda @Minholkin
If there were....there aren't anymore 🤷♂️
@Kurtroedeger @raspberrypanda @Minholkin @Novels56 Kurt, what a fabulous home you've made! Thanks for the tour!
@Minholkin @Novels56 since the timber frame and outside walls make up the structure, I could gut the interior and rearrange walls however I want. Only supporting wall inside is the one along the stairs. It's why factory cabinets worked for me, because I could just shift a wall 3 or 4 inches and be fine and then could keep all those savings.
@Kurtroedeger , wise man. Pay the experts where expertise is needed. 😎🤓🥰@Minholkin @Novels56
@Kurtroedeger ahhh, I kind of thought that might be it but the dark color was throwing me off. I’ve only seen white colored wraps around here.
@Novels56 white are more the hay type. Not sure if it makes a difference, but I've seen him use the black for alfalfa. 🤷♂️. White looks like giant marshmallows 🤤. Imagine the s'mores those could make.
I see you over there fuming. 😂
Also, we see a lot of green wraps here.

@Kurtroedeger Ha!
@Kurtroedeger it is..🙂
